Traditional Values, Modern Methods, Sporting Excellence
Liverpool Karate Academy is a friendly and professional karate academy based in North Liverpool.
We are a part of the BSKF - British Sports Karate Federation, headed by former world champion and current EKF National Squad Coach Paul Newby Sensei and EKF Northern Regional Coach Frank Pulluno Sensei. Our Association provides an extensive network of backing to our club and pathways to the highest levels of sporting competition in the world.
Traditionally karate had two main purposes, self-defence and character development (often forged through tough physical training). However over the years karate has developed and moved with the times, also becoming competitive. Sports Karate is very physically demanding at an elite level and requires high levels of athletic development on top of karate’s normal martial training.
We believe greatly in the power of fun, positive sporting experiences and how they can influence young, maturing athletes especially. With the high level of athletic development, sportsmanship and teamwork involved in sports karate, alongside the virtues of karate itself, traditional values are honed (discipline, respect, confidence, concentration, health, etc.) as well as encouraging positive character development, healthy competitiveness and the many other benefits of sporting excellence.
One cannot simply say that karate is a prerequisite to humbleness, respect, character development, virtue and so on. Simply ‘doing’ karate doesn’t develop much other than a refined physical ability to cause damage. It is not karate itself but how it is taught that matters. We here at Liverpool Karate Academy simply chose to develop ourselves through the pursuit of excellence in the sport and art of karate and all aspects of our club ethos reflect this.
